Roatan Honduras -- Videos

10 Years ago I spent a spectacular week diving in Roatan, Honduras with the legendary dive club Atlanta Divers, lead by good friend, Peter Vickers, a former military diver with the Royal Navy. Peter had extensive experience in the commercial, technical (full cave certified), and recreational diving industries. He was a YMCA and a Master PADI Instructor and trained many civilians and military. I traveled and dove with Peter on many occasions. I am very lucky to have been trained by such an extraordinary individual. Sadly he died in 2003 of cancer. His memory still lives on as well as his motto, "Diving is Magic!" On the trip to Honduras we paid a videographer to film our dives. Here are a few of them below. Please enjoy these videos in honor of my friend Peter Vickers.

Cabo San Lucas, Baja Mexico!

Last week the family and I spent a week at the Cabo Surf hotel in Baja Mexico. The trip was fantastic! We has good swell so we caught lots of waves. April is the end of the whales breeding season, but I guess nobody told the whales because we saw whales all day everyday. Mothers and babies breaching and starting that long journey back to Alaska. The hotel is situated away from the main town, right on the beach in front of two awesome surf breaks, "Old Man's(Acapulquito)" and "The Rock. We had a very nice room and the food was spectacular. The staff was very friendly and made us feel right at home. This place rocks! I took one day to dive with Lands End Divers they were a pretty good outfit. The dive master Erik was very knowledgeable and was a pleasure to dive with. We ended up doing three dives: Pelican Rock, Sand Falls, and Lands End. We saw an enormous variety of wildlife including sea lions, lots of different species of eels, sting rays, large grouper, massive schools of fish, several guitar fish, huge puffer fish, too many species to name. The dives started in sand flats with very nice reef and rock formations, then lead to a very deep wall that disappeared vertically into the abyss. I really enjoyed diving the Sea of Cortez. Dan McGraw in the British Virgin Islands

I caught up with my good friend Dan McGraw. Dan is an experienced sailboat captain,scuba diver, and an excellent trumpet player! We both played trumpet for years in a rock band together. Years of playing a wind instrument really help with free diving. Check out this great video and pictures of Dan and his wife snorkling/freediving as they sailed the British Virgin Islands! Sweet boat! Looks like an awesome adventure! BTW, I'm still working on the Roatan videos.

Roatan Honduras

I'm getting together all my film from a trip 10 years ago to Roatan Honduras, when we stayed a week at the Bay island Beach Resort and visited the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences located in Anthony’s Key Resort. Here we learned about and dove with bottle-nosed dolphins. I'm almost done. I'll post it all next month. I have lots of incredible underwater video. We had a professional videographer film all our dives with beautiful reef, all kinds of fish, sharks, dolphin, turtles, wrecks, eels, walls, etc. and then there is the story of Shiva, the dog that adopted a wild monkey! Stay tuned....

Costa Rica Diving

I dove Catalina Grande last week with my good friend Dwayne Williams, and the guys from Gravidade Zero, Joao Rodrigo Milanez and Ewerton dos Santos. These guys are MMA fighters from Brazil vacationing in Costa Rica, and filming for their TV show. The show has been on cable in Brazil for six years. They filmed all the dives and interviewed Dwayne and I for the show. How cool is that?

Cross Training!

I'm going to Costa Rica in a few days to catch some waves and to check out the Circuito Nacional de Surf's contest. Gilbert Brown's going to be there as well as Luis Castro. Lots of awesome surfers! Maybe even dive with the giant mantas. I've been cross training at Brook Run Skate Park in Dunwoody, and Mountain Park skatepark in Lilburn with my sons, old friends, and skate legends Don Hillsman, and Fred Reeves.
